Why is it in the news?

  • The Indian Historical Records Commission (IHRC) recently adopted a new logo featuring lotus petals and the Sarnath pillar, along with the motto “Where history is preserved for the future.”
About IHRC

·        Established in 1919, IHRC is an all-India forum of creators, custodians, and users of records.

·        It serves as an apex advisory body on archival matters, advising the Government of India on record management and historical research issues.

·        Headed by the Union Minister of Culture.

Role and Significance:

·        Identifies, collects, catalogs, and maintains historical documents, manuscripts, and other sources of historical information.

·        Ensures conservation of valuable historical knowledge for future generations.

·        Contributes significantly to public interest in the conservation and use of archives.
