Why is it in the news?
- India plans to invite global firms to manufacture Hydrogen trains as part of the Hydrogen for Heritage scheme, announced in the Union Budget 2023-24.
- It aims to run 35 Hydrogen trains and retrofit Hydrogen Fuel cells on existing Diesel Electric Multiple Units (DEMU) in India Railways to promote green transportation and support zero carbon emission goals.
