GCC launched its ‘Vision for Regional Security’


Why is it in the news?

  • The Vision for Regional Security was adopted by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in December 2023.
  • The vision proposes a comprehensive framework of regional security aimed at promoting negotiation and dialogue to resolve disagreements, violence, and conflicts.

 Key Highlights of the Vision

  • Based on the principles of shared destiny and indivisible security, where any threat to one member state is considered a threat to all.
  • Emphasizes joint efforts to prioritize dialogue and negotiation over the use of force to resolve differences.
  • Urges member states to collaborate in combating terrorism, extremism, and money laundering.
  • Calls for supporting international and regional efforts on non-proliferation to make the region free of weapons of mass destruction.
  • Advocates for activating the Arab Peace Initiative to reach a just resolution of the Palestinian cause, in accordance with a two-state solution.
  • Prioritizes addressing climate change, water and food security, energy security, defending economic resources, and creating investment opportunities.
About GCC

·   Founded in 1981.

·   Comprises six Gulf states, including UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, and Kuwait.

· Aimed at achieving coordination, integration, and interconnection between member states in all fields.

Organisational Structure:

·  Supreme Council: Consisting of the heads of states, serving as the highest authority.

·   Ministerial Council: Comprising foreign ministers, responsible for decision-making and policy implementation.
