About FTSCs
- Launched in 2019, a Centrally Sponsored Scheme implemented by the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law & Justice.
- Central Share funded from the Nirbhaya Fund to enhance women’s safety and security.
- Designed as dedicated courts for rape and POCSO Act cases.
- Established following the enactment of the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act 2018, introducing stringent punishments, including the death penalty for rape offenders.
- 761 FTSCs, including 414 exclusive POCSO Courts, are operationalized in 30 States and Union Territories.
- Linked to the National Judicial Data Grid.
- Resolved over 1.95 lakh cases, contributing to the swift resolution of sexual offense cases.
- Benefits include ending sexual and gender-based violence, reducing pending cases, and relieving the burden on the judicial system.
Concerns and Challenges
- Lack of IT infrastructure and specialized training provided to judges.
- Inadequate number of judges, posing challenges to the efficiency of the FTSCs.
