Why is it in the news?

  • The ChipIN Centre, initiated by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Electronics and IT, was launched at the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC).

  • It serves as a centralized facility aimed at providing access to chip design and fabrication services to domestic start-ups and academia across India.
  • The ChipIN Centre offers a range of comprehensive services, including

1) centralized design facility equipped with state-of-the-art tools for the entire chip design cycle, capable of handling advanced nodes up to 5nm.

2) Aggregate services for facilitating fabrication of designs at foundries and subsequent packaging processes.

3) Virtual prototyping hardware lab, providing resources and support for testing and validating chip designs.

 

About Semiconductor Chips

·       Semiconductor chips, also known as integrated circuits (ICs) or microchips, are compact electronic devices comprising interconnected electronic elements.

·       These components, including transistors, resistors, and capacitors, are fabricated on a small piece of semiconductor material, typically silicon.

·       Semiconductor chips serve as fundamental building blocks for electronic devices, acting as miniature electrical switches capable of controlling electrical currents with precision.
