Namo Drone Didi Scheme


Why is it in the news?

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually handed over a total of 1,000 drones, including the 200 supplied by Coromandel International, to members of various SHGs across 11 locations in the country, including Guntur in Andhra Pradesh under the ‘Namo Drone Didi’ scheme by the Government of India.
  • The ‘Namo Drone Didi’ scheme aims to empower rural women by training them as drone pilots and integrating them into the local farming supply chains.

 

More about the news

  • The drones supplied by Coromandel will be utilized by women SHG members in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka, with the company having also provided training to local women pilots for operating these drones.
  • These drones come with advanced features such as anti-collision sensors, Return to Launch (RTL) for safe landing, and high-quality nozzles capable of covering up to 30 acres of spraying per day.
