Why is it in the news?

  • The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) has introduced new green rating tools as part of its Net Zero mission to promote green building projects in India.
  • These tools include the Net Zero Carbon Rating and upgraded rating systems, including Green Existing Building Rating Version 1.0, Green Factory Rating Version 2.0, and Green Campus Rating Version 1.0.

About IGBC

  • IGBC, headquartered in Hyderabad, was established by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in 2001.
  • It serves as India’s premier certification body for promoting environmentally friendly projects and buildings.
  • IGBC’s vision is to facilitate India’s emergence as a global leader in green buildings and the green built environment by 2025.
  • The organization is a founding member of the World Green Building Council, where it participates in discussions on global environmental issues at events like COP (Conference of the Parties) and similar international platforms.
