Why is it in the news?
- The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has developed Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software named Parallel RANS Solver for Aerospace Vehicle Aero-thermo-dynamic Analysis (PraVaHa).
About PraVaHa:
- PraVaHa was developed at ISRO’s Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), demonstrates India’s aerospace technological capabilities.
- It can simulate external and internal flows on diverse aerospace platforms, spanning launch vehicles, winged and non-winged re-entry vehicles.
- This simulation tool enables comprehensive aerodynamic design assessments, pivotal for refining vehicle performance and ensuring safety.
Role of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
- CFD predicts aerodynamic and aerothermal loads by solving governing equations. It has matured to offer high accuracy and fast simulations, addressing aerospace challenges like high pressure and intense heat flux.
PraVaHa’s Role in Gaganyaan Program:
- Significant Contribution: PraVaHa assumes a crucial function within the Gaganyaan endeavor, enabling in-depth aerodynamic assessments of human-rated launch vehicles including HLVM3, Crew Escape System (CES), and Crew Module (CM).
- Adaptability and Partnership: Engineered to harness the capabilities of both CPU and GPU architectures, PraVaHa ensures seamless integration with current and forthcoming supercomputing infrastructures, promoting collaborative endeavors with academic and governmental organizations.
Conclusion:
- PraVaHa, set to replace commercial CFD simulations, aids academia and institutions in resolving intricate aerodynamic challenges, aligning with India’s self-reliance goal of Atmanirbhar India.
