96th Academy Awards


Why is it in the news?

  • The 96th Academy Awards, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, honoured outstanding achievements in the film industry.
  • The Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, have been recognizing excellence in cinematic achievements since 1929 across various categories.
  • Winners receive the prestigious golden statuette, officially called the ‘Academy Award of Merit’.

 

Award Winners

  • The big winners of the 96th Academy Awards included “Oppenheimer” and “Poor Things”.
  • “Oppenheimer” won Best Picture, Best Actor (Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr.), Best Directing (Christopher Nolan), Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, and Best Original Score.
  • “Poor Things” secured awards for Best Actress (Emma Stone), Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Best Production Design.

  • Best Visual Effects: “Godzilla Minus One”
  • Best Actress in a Supporting Role: Da’Vine Joy Randolph for “The Holdovers”
  • Best Sound: “The Zone of Interest”
  • Best Animated Feature Film: “The Boy and the Heron”
  • Best Live Action Short Film: “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar”
  • Best Adapted Screenplay: “American Fiction”
  • Best Animated Short Film: “WAR IS OVER! Inspired by the Music of John & Yoko”
  • Best Original Screenplay: “Anatomy of a Fall”
  • Best Original Song: “What Was I Made For?” from “Barbie”
  • Best Documentary Feature Film: “20 Days in Mariupol”
  • Best International Feature Film: “The Zone of Interest”
  • Best Documentary Short Film: “The Last Repair Shop”
