About the Award

·        The Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament, and Development is an esteemed award established by the Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust in India.

·       It was instituted in 1986 to commemorate the legacy of the late Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi, who served as the leader of the country during critical periods in its history.

·       The primary objective of the award is to recognize and honour individuals or organizations that have made noteworthy contributions to various aspects of global well-being.

·       The prize underscores achievements in promoting international understanding and peace, contributing to the development of a new international economic order, and strengthening democratic principles worldwide.

·       The ceremony is traditionally held on November 19th, marking the birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi.

 

Award Categories

The award is presented in three distinct categories:

1) Recognizes efforts that promote and maintain international peace and security.

2) Acknowledges significant contributions to the reduction and elimination of weapons of mass destruction.

3) Honors work that actively contributes to the promotion of economic and social development on a global scale.
