About Dongria Kondh Tribes
· Reside in the Niyamgiri hill range in Odisha, India. · Known for distinctive jewellery, tattoos, and hairstyles. · Women wear multiple rings through their ears and noses, while boys wear nose rings. · Girls wear hair clips, neck rings, and beads. Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) · Originated from the Dhebar Commission’s categorization of Primitive Tribal Groups (PTGs) in 1973. · In 1975, 52 tribal groups were identified as PTGs, and 23 more were added in 1993. · In 2006, PTGs were renamed PVTGs. · PVTGs are highly vulnerable with primitive traits, geographic isolation, low literacy, and zero to negative population growth. · They often have a pre-agriculture level of technology and rely heavily on hunting for food. · Odisha has the largest population of PVTGs in India, followed by Madhya Pradesh. |
